The SC2/ SC4 is a control unit for a safety light curtain system with 1 or 2 single direction light curtains (consisting of a sender and receiver) of category 2 or 4 (EN 954-1) or of type 2 or 4 (IEC 61496).

The control unit together with a single-beam SL or SLA 12/29 series light curtain form a modular protection system.
The SC2/ SC4 provides the required supply voltages, triggers the transmitters, and evaluates the signals from the receivers. A corresponding safety-rated control signal (via two relays with force-guided contacts) is then available at the output. Depending on the type of light curtains used, the system’s detection range can be up to 65 m.

Options, such as relay monitoring and start up/ restart locking, ensure that the required safety functions will be performed. The operating modes can be selected by the user according to application requirements.

Applications:
Normally used where there is an increased risk of injury:

• Protect personnel from point of operation or “pinch point” hazards
• Detect the intrusion of personnel or equipment into a zone where potentially hazardous activity can occur
• Often used instead of pressure sensitive floor mats, area guards detect the intrusion and maintained presence of a person or machine anywhere within the protected area, not just the initial penetration of the curtain of light surrounding a perimeter

The SafeBox System enables the connection of all components of a machine protection system to a single control unit. With its modular design, it can be configured easily to fit a wide variety of application requirements.

The SafeBox System is great for connection and control of photoelectric safety sensors, mechanical safety systems, and safety switches in Category 1 through 4 as in EN 954-1.

The system is approved to the latest standards: IEC 61496-1 and EN 61508 (SIL3). In addition to connecting numerous safety sensors it also supports emergency stop functions, categories 0 and 1, and various muting modes. The SafeBox complies with protection category IP20 and is designed for switch cabinet installation.

Each SafeBox consists of a robust component rack with backplane that holds between two and eight extension modules. The backplane is used for the mechanical and electrical connection and provides the power supply to the individual modules.

• Sensor card modules for 4 and 6 channels
• Muting modules
• E-stop modules
• Blank covers for spare slots

• Emergency stop buttons
• Position switches
• Switching pads and switching panels
• Magnetic switches
• Door contacts and other one- and two-channel safety elements
