New Position Encoding System WCS Read Heads
More than just a positioning system
Pepperl+Fuchs WCS3B read head on code rail
Pepperl+Fuchs is upgrading the WCS Position Encoding System. The WCS2A and WCS3A read heads have been replaced with the WCS2B and WCS3B series. The new read heads retain the same housing dimensions and are 100% compatible with existing mounting hardware, code rails, etc.
The electrical connection for WCS2B and WCS3B read heads now incorporate a rugged M12 disconnect exclusively. M12 connection technology offers you a wide range of connection sockets and ready-made cables. Another new feature provides a velocity output option: upon receiving a user-generated request byte, the reader can output a binary code referencing its speed in 0.1m/s increments.
The WCS3B read head now features a wider slot gap, 31 mm, while maintaining the same external dimensions. A 25% increase in open dimensions between the read head and code rail automatically compensates for possible mechanical tolerances in your applications. The vertical movement tolerance increases to +14 mm vertical displacement with no loss in positional accuracy—a 40% increase over the WCS3A.
The hardware and software for devices with an SSI interface have been revised. In addition to RS485 and SSI, direct read head communication is also possible via CANopen protocol with the WCS3B read head.
Do you know that you can use the WCS Position Encoding System for high-temperature identification applications with simultaneous fine positioning? Pepperl+Fuchs would be happy to offer expert advice. Just let us know what you need!
