Seamlessly Integrated Remote I/O in I/A Series

Invensys Process Systems (IPS), a global technology, software, and consulting company, and Pepperl+Fuchs have jointly developed a solution to fully integrate Pepperl+Fuchs’ LB and FB Remote I/O systems into the I/A-Series^® Process Control System. The operability for customers and users has been simplified considerably, and the total costs for intrinsically safe signal conditioning have been greatly reduced.

An essential point was the development of the Com Unit (Intrinsically Safe Communication Module, abbreviated to ISCM), to create a transparent interface for the IPS I/A-Series^® Process Control System. Now you can activate the Remote I/O systems via the standard configuration tool from IPS. The proven LB/FB modules consequently act as system-specific modules of the I/A-Series^® and can be planned, configured and diagnosed in the customary environment.

The intrinsically safe modules can be exchanged during actual operation. Plant expansion without interruption of operations is of paramount importance, even in non-redundant stations. Master redundancy, media redundancy, power supply redundancy and Com Unit redundancy provide extremely high plant availability when required.

Another advantage of integrating both systems is the considerably higher packing density compared to previous solutions: Fewer control cabinets are required and, therefore, save space in the control room. You can, of course, also install Remote I/O directly in Zone 1 or 2 hazardous areas.
