The FieldConnex intrinsically safe surge protectors have been thoroughly re-designed. Due to a greatly improved plug-in design, installation and replacement is easier than ever. Multiple certifications support worldwide hazardous area Zone 1, Class I, and Division 1 installation, while DART certification allows installation on the DART Fieldbus trunk.
As part of the FieldConnex line of fieldbus infrastructure components from Pepperl+Fuchs, the mechanical design of the new surge protector supports easy installation and maintenance. This surge protector is designed for cabinet installation and consists of a base unit for DIN rail attachment and a separate plug-in module for easy installation and replacement. Both components come in alternative versions to match a wide range of applications.
Inserting the plug-in module results in an audible 'click' to ensure that all contacts are firmly connected. This adds to secure installation and contributes to increased reliability and plant uptime.
Depending on the model selected, the base unit either disconnects the segment when the plug-in module is removed, or supports hot swapping while the fieldbus segment remains in operation. This allows easy adaption to existing plant installation and maintenance rules.
The plug-in module with integrated gas discharge tube is also available in two versions. The model with the screen tied directly to the ground is suitable for cabinets with a central grounding point, and field installation when multi-point grounding is applied. The model with the ground tied via the gas discharge tube is the choice for field installation without direct ground connection – floating shield or capacitive grounding.
For Zone 1, Class I, Division 1 installation all over the world, all FieldConnex Surge Protectors feature ATEX, IECEx, CSA, and UL certification. They are also certified for installation on the DART Fieldbus trunk.
