BPCL Kochi Refinery Recognizes Pepperl+Fuchs India's Capability for Complete Project Execution
BPCL Kochi Refinery placed an order with Pepperl+Fuchs India for an I.S. barrier/ temperature converter panel revamp project. Pepperl+Fuchs' responsibilities included pre-engineering site survey, design, engineering, procurement, assembly, factory acceptance test, supply, installation, site acceptance test and commissioning of three new panels using I.S. barriers/ temperature converter modules to replace existing barrier panels with digital I.S. barriers at the CDU-1 plant.
Pepperl+Fuchs supplied three value added panels housing 309 KFD2-UT2-Ex1-1 universal temperature converters, 46 KFD2-GU-Ex1 temperature limit alarms, and 36 KFD2-EB-R2A.B power feed modules. The engineering scope included preparation of instrument indexes, data sheets, wiring diagrams and instrument loop diagrams using SmartPlant® Instrumentation software.
Engineering, design, and documentation using SmartPlant® Instrumentation powered by INtools® software from INTERGRAPH, U.S.A. (supplied by Rolta India Limited) is normally used for major projects by companies such as Reliance, Shell, etc. BPCL Kochi Refinery decided to provide engineering documentation for all new instrumentation revamp projects using Smart Plant® Instrumentation software. Even though there was an option of sourcing the engineering work to engineering consulting companies, Pepperl+Fuchs India decided to procure the software and develop in-house capabilities to carry out detailed engineering plans.
The first order was followed by another large project from BPCL Kochi Refinery to revamp another seven I.S. barrier panels at the CDU-1 and FCCU plants. Pepperl+Fuchs will supply 917 KFD2-STC4-Ex1 SMART transmitter power supplies, 455 KFD2-SCD-Ex1.LK SMART current drivers, and 242 KFD2-VR2-Ex1.50 m voltage repeaters. This project also involves detailed engineering using SPI software, installation, commissioning, and as-built documentation.
This is the first time Pepperl+Fuchs will be doing such project execution including engineering using SPI software. Implementation of such projects by Pepperl+Fuchs is expected to bring more challenging projects including fieldbus projects in India from end user companies like BPCL, IOCL, Reliance etc. in the future.
