TERMEX – Intrinsically safe control systems for hazardous areas

When it comes to control and display in hazardous areas, Pepperl+Fuchs has set new benchmarks with the intrinsically safe operator panels in the TERMEX family.

Due to the fact that they have been specifically designed for use in Ex Zones 1 and 2 (according to category II 2 G) as well as Ex Zone 22 (II 3 D), this product or rather system solution facilitates flexible and inexpensive operator control and monitoring of machines and processes.

Besides being well-established and widely accepted in the market, this product family has made a name for itself thanks to its openness and its expandability to the most various industries – such as e.g. the pharmaceutical-, food- and the petrochemical industry.

The highly diverse product spectrum of TERMEX is particularly worth mentioning. In combination with pluggable peripheral devices – such as barcode reading systems (SCANEX), weighing hoppers, platform scales, expansion keyboards etc. – independent system solutions with connection to all popular PLC systems (such as Siemens, Allen Bradley etc.) result, both in hazardous, as well as in non-hazardous areas. Text or graphic terminal, with or without cursor pads, for installation in a panel or alternatively in a stainless steel case, with or without digital inputs and outputs, makes no difference.

Functional extensions

The current functional extensions ...

• allow operation in an extended temperature zone of - 20 °C
... + 60 °C, without having to apply housings,
• enable the installation of backlighting ensuring an optimal data representation, even in unlighted environments and application areas.

The projection and parameterization of the TERMEX devices is carried out with the help of the Windows-based projection software TERMEXpro 4.0.

As regards menu navigation and ease of use, TERMEXpro 4.0 is geared to modern solutions prevalent in non-hazardous areas and therefore has a considerable share in the efficient and speedy project implementation.

The consistent integration of standardized procedures, data types (DIN EN 61131-3) and control functions (drag&drop, import-/export of variables, do/undo, graphics library, signal-simulation), as well as the intuitive operator guidance support the installation projector as regards the implementation of his application task.

In order to facilitate international projects, the function "multilingualism" was introduced, which supports up to 32 languages and can be switched at any time without interrupting operation. The functionality "automatic documentation" generates a freely editable winword file. It goes without saying that the integration in external documentation of the installation supplier is, of course, possible.
