High-precision F199 Inclination Sensor Complements Product Portfolio

2019-01-09

F199 inclination sensor
The F199 inclination sensor precisely measures inclination.

Whether in machines and plants, mobile equipment, or solar power systems—inclination sensors are used wherever inclination angles have to be reliably measured. Pepperl+Fuchs already offers the right inclination sensor for a variety of applications with the F99 series. The new F199, specially optimized for high accuracy inclination measurement, complements the product portfolio. Where standard sensors reach their limits because of inaccuracy, the F199 is the ideal solution. It measures angles from 0 to 360° precisely with ±0.15° accuracy—across the entire measuring range. With this and its extremely rugged design, the F199 offers a wide range of application possibilities, especially in outdoor areas and harsh environments.

Rugged and Suitable for Outdoor Use

The existing inclination sensors from Pepperl+Fuchs are based on a two-piece mounting concept, which makes them extremely sturdy. A metal mounting bracket provides the sensor module with impact protection. The one-part F199 inclination sensor supplements this existing portfolio. A corrosion-resistant aluminum housing, encapsulated electronics, and 100 g shock resistance make it extremely robust. It is ideally suited for harsh conditions with IP68/69 protection.

Toward the Sun

In CSP applications, there are countless mirrors reflecting sunlight onto a receiver.

The rugged F199 can be used in concentrated solar power (CSP) applications to generate energy from solar heat. CSP plants typically have countless mirrors that concentrate solar radiation onto a receiver or receiver area. A heat medium inside the receiver is heated by the sunlight and drives a steam or gas turbine, which in turn generates power. The more sunlight, the more power can be generated. To avoid scattering loss from inaccurate mirror alignment, inclination sensors detect the inclination angles of the mirrors. The F199’s rugged housing and extended temperature range of -40 to +85 °C make it perfect for this application.

The F199 can withstand the heat in CSP plants and can be installed in direct sunlight.

The F199 can withstand the heat and measure the inclination angle precisely. This allows the mirrors to be perfectly aligned with the sun’s rays so that as much solar radiation as possible can be converted to power. With this, F199 inclination sensors contribute to increased effectiveness and efficiency in CSP plants.
