Optimize Your Business Processes with Sensors for the Internet of Things

Wireless IoT sensors make objects like containers, tanks, and silos smart. This creates a wealth of new communication possibilities and sources of information, including:

  • Regular updates on current fill level
  • Warnings when a defined threshold is exceeded
  • Notification of current geoposition for pick-up
  • Overview of fill level and position of all containers, tanks, and silos in a central online location

Collecting and using this valuable information helps you optimize supply and logistics processes. Manual fill level control and unwanted transport of half-full or half-empty containers is no longer an issue.

Application Examples

Smart Cities

IoT Sensor Solution for Smart Cities

Increasing environmental awareness has made waste management a top priority of many city governments. The WILSEN system is an ideal solution in these situations. By equipping containers for old clothes, glass, paper, and residual waste with WILSEN.sonic.level sensors, a much smarter and convenient waste management is possible.

Fill levels transmitted from containers enable waste management workers to take more efficient routes, saving time and reducing rush hour traffic jams. The entire process can be planned in advance much more precisely. Cities and citizens will benefit from on-demand waste collection, reduced noise, reduced exhaust emissions, and fewer overflowing recycling bins.

Smart Logistics

IoT Sensor Solution for Smart Logistics

The WILSEN system helps you get the most out of your logistics processes. Because the WILSEN.sonic.level sensors submit fill levels and geo location, you can track mobile containers on the way to the point of use.

By utilizing this additional information from our WILSEN system, you can optimize fleet management, establish smart replenishment of containers, and ensure that all raw materials and intermediate products are available in time for production. Time-consuming on-site container monitoring is a thing of the past, as fill level data can be centrally accessed and containers autonomously report deviations from defined fill levels or geopositions.

How Does the System Work?

A Modular IoT System

WILSEN IoT Sensor System Description

1. IoT Sensors

The IoT sensors are equipped with different wireless interfaces. They can be connected to the public GSM (2G) network or integrated into a LoRaWAN.

2. Connectivity

Choose the SIM card or LoRaWAN of your preferred provider.

3. Data and Device Management

In LoRaWANs, the network provider offers data and device management. For use inside the public GSM network, the sensors must be integrated into the respective target system. Pepperl+Fuchs also offers the WILSEN.service as a secure remote station for sensor data and device management. Combined, the IoT sensors and the WILSEN.service build an end-to-end IoT system.

4. Data Visualization and Processing

Telemetry sensor data can be displayed with the WILSEN.service visualization tool. Furthermore, the software interfaces enable connection to other ERP, CRM, and IoT systems (e.g., CUMULOCITY, ThingsBoard, and niota) for data visualization and processing.

The IoT Sensor—WILSEN.sonic.level

WILSEN.sonic.level Ultrasonic Sensor

WILSEN.sonic.level is a wireless sensor with integrated ultrasonic module for fill level detection. It is available for wireless GSM (2G) and LoRaWAN communication and has a battery life of up to five years. A built-in GPS chip allows precise device tracking. Status information about things like temperature and battery life are also transmitted.

What's more, WILSEN.sonic.level sensors feature the ruggedness that is characteristic of industrial sensors from Pepperl+Fuchs. With an IP66/67 rating and a PTFE protective film that prevents contaminants from adhering to the transducer, the sensors can be readily mounted in tough ambient conditions.

Built-in temperature compensation enables a wide temperature range of -25 °C to +70 °C and equips these sensors to gather reliable fill level data, both outdoors and in harsh environments. Adjustable beam patterns and a sensing range of up to 4 m give you the flexibility to adapt to space constraints.
