When processes have to be monitored in explosion-hazardous areas or under rough conditions, HMI systems are the right solution to make process data accessible. However, in those areas, systems have to meet high requirements, e.g. a good cleanability, a robust housing, or resistance against aggressive substances like in chemical plants. With the VisuNet portfolio, Pepperl+Fuchs offers a broad modular system that allows users to optimally adapt HMI systems to their individual applications. In order to enhance user flexibility, a few new developments will complement the VisuNet family, which will be introduced at this year’s SPS fair in Nuremberg for the first time.
The PC version of the VisuNet GXP is equipped with an Intel® Quad Core processor and an open Microsoft® Windows operating system which offers improved computing power and software flexibility. With this, users are able to install individual software packages in order to visualize applications in industrial and hazardous areas.
With a variety of available interfaces, the GXP computer unit can be connected directly to a control system or other peripheral devices. Whether RS232, RS485 or Ethernet – users can choose the appropriate interface for their application, ensuring communication at all times. Additionally, there will be a fiber optic option available which enables reliable connection even over longer distances.
The newest display unit of the VisuNet GXP comes in a compact housing. In addition to the 21,5” display with a 16:9 screen, there is now a 19“ version with a 5:4 format available. It not only offers a space-saving design, but is also compatible with its predecessor series, the VisuNet EX1, as a drop. This means that users can retrofit existing installations easily, and are able to continue using existing keyboards or barcode readers. Just like the larger 21,5" version of the display unit, the 19" model is equipped with a capacitive multi touch sensor which allows touch-optimized user interfaces. The robust and scratch resistant safety glass without any gaps is easily cleaned and perfectly meets the high demands of the life sciences industry.
All VisuNet Remote Monitors are equipped with our own RM Shell firmware. The most recent update, RM Shell 5, improves on the existing functionality and creates an even more user-friendly experience. RM Shell 5 not only supports the latest remote protocol versions, such as RDP 10, VNC, NetC@P, and Citrix, but also uses Microsoft® Windows 10 IoT Enterprise as the operating system. With the Long-term Servicing Branch (LTSB), the new Windows version provides a long-term availability of security updates, ensuring system safety at all times. The safety functions of RM Shell, like a password-protected access and the definition of user roles, additionally enhance safety.
In combination with the innovative software VisuNet Control Center, RM Shell 5 is an efficient solution for a future-oriented remote management of VisuNet remote monitors and thin clients. With the centralized management functions, users are able to remotely configure, maintain, and monitor their remote monitor or thin client installation. A walk back to the plant to configure remote HMI units is no longer necessary for administrators—they can do everything from one central point.
