An E.ON natural gas storage facility in Cheshire, UK is designed to hold over 160 million cubic metres of gas. The project will use Pepperl+Fuchs' SIL rated intrinsic safety isolated barriers to interface between the Safety Instrumented System and a large number of field devices installed on the Holford Gas Storage project.
The facility will store natural gas in eight salt caverns deep underground and export the contents into the UK transmission system as required. Plant safety is critical, and the Pepperl+Fuchs H-System Termination Board mount isolated barriers provide:
- IEC61508 SIL 2/3 rating
- Low power dissipation
- Compact 12.5 mm width which can reduce cabinet space requirements by as much as 33%
