Reliable Limit Monitoring with SC-System's New Trip Amplifier

2017-08-28

SC-System trip amplifier

The SC-System’s signal conditioner product family includes numerous modules for digital and analog field signals. The modules ensure that process communication is safe and efficient.  In addition to transmitter power supplies, isolating amplifiers, passive isolators, and temperature and signal converters, the trip amplifier now joins the ranks of this portfolio of compact analog modules. Use the new trip amplifier to reliably control security-related parameters, recognize and fix faults, and optimize plant safety.

Clear signals, no workaround

The SC-System trip amplifier monitors measurement signals based on a previously determined limit value. If the actual value deviates from the limit value, the module sends a signal that activates an emergency trip or an alarm, as an example. Due to the module’s parameterizable outputs, switch signals are available at the relay contact outputs without the user having to refer to a central control panel.

Variety of applications for greater flexibility

In addition to its parameterizing options, the SC-System’s trip amplifier enables analysis of diverse input variables.  The module processes incoming standard signals from 2-wire-transmitters, unipolar and bipolar signals from 2-wire-transmitters,  as well as unipolar and bipolar current and voltage sources. The module can be adapted precisely to a specific application, providing users with utmost flexibility. Additionally, a supply of 2-wire-transmitters is available.

Safe limit value monitoring

The SC-System trip amplifier offers a restart inhibit that indicates errors until they are identified, corrected, and acknowledged. This protective function is useful for monitoring lead breakage: If the two ends of a broken line happen to still be in contact, it can appear as though there is no error. If this error remains unidentified, it can affect processes and endanger personnel and equipment. A variety of configuration options is available to help users adapt the signal conditioner to different applications: adjustable on/off delay and a one-shot function for the relay contact output.

SC-System—reliability in its most efficient form

The SC-System's 1- and 2-channel signal conditioners are especially designed for use in non-hazardous areas. With a width of 6 mm and a height of 97 mm, the compact modules are ideally suited for retrofitting in tight spaces. The SC-System offers high-quality three-way isolation between input, output, and supply, withstanding a working voltage of up to 300 V and a test voltage of up to 3.0 KV. The signal conditioners are designed for an operating temperature from -25 °C to +70 °C, and can be mounted horizontally or vertically without distance and reducing operating values. The SC-System modules are supplied with 24 volts via terminals or power bus, an insert for 35-mm DIN rails.
