Solenoid Drivers with Line Fault Transparency

Solenoid Drivers with Line Fault Transparency (LFT)
Read more about the new K-System solenoid drivers.

Meet the latest highlight to Pepperl+Fuchs’ K-System portfolio of intrinsic safety barriers: solenoid drivers with line fault transparency (LFT). These modules help you use digital output (DO) cards to their full extent. Their entity parameters are compatible with over 90 % of solenoid manufacturers, and their input circuitry is designed to be compatible with all major control and emergency shutdown (ESD) systems. This ensures easy integration, regardless of the system you use.

High Compatibility, High Safety

Solenoid drivers galvanically isolate the switching intrinsically safe solenoid valve from the control system. Connecting solenoid drivers to a safety card solves compatibility issues between the field device and the diagnostics on DO cards. While the overall safety function remains unaffected, users can make full use of all available diagnostics and protection measures of the DO-cards during operation, including:

  • test pulses with frequencies in the kHz range and durations in the µs range
  • a certain load current (depending on card and manufacturer) in ON and OFF condition
  • an inrush current limitation to protect the DO card

LFT for Comprehensive Line Fault Detection

The new K-System solenoid drivers with LFT let users take full advantage of line fault detection features on expensive DO cards, without any additional wiring. Line faults can be easily located on the field or control side, simplifying continuous monitoring and increasing plant availability.

Highlights of K-System Solenoid Drivers

  • The only loop-powered solution with test pulse suppression and line fault transparency
  • Compatible with DO cards of all major control and ESD systems
  • 12.5 mm housing design for high packaging density
  • Entity parameters cover 90 % of all available intrinsically safe solenoids
  • SIL 3 according to IEC 61508
  • Loop or bus powered solution in one device
