Robotic applications using interchangeable tools move at high speeds with rapid movement and rotation. Traditional solutions with drag chains or slip rings lack the required flexibility for this automation technology. The Wireless Inductive System (WIS) from Pepperl+Fuchs masters these challenges by enabling noncontact connectivity where no fixed connections are possible. 

The new WIS 2 offers improved performance with an even higher power transmission of 12 watts. A longer 7 mm distance between the primary and secondary transmitter provides significant tolerance to axial misalignment. 


Wireless transfer of power and signals

Wireless inductive systems operate on the principle of inductive coupling and consist of a primary and secondary transmitter. For the purpose of energy transfer, an inductive alternating field is generated on the primary side. When the secondary circuit enters this field, the transmitted energy is sufficient to operate industrial sensors like inductive, optical, or capacitive sensors located directly on the moving machine parts. The signal states of the sensors are transferred to the primary side by means of individual transmission pulses and are made available to the control system.
