Privacy Policy: Information to be provided according to Article 13 General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The Pepperl+Fuchs SmartBridge app has been developed by Pepperl+Fuchs SE and made available on various platforms. The Pepperl+Fuchs SmartBridge app enables the SmartBridge interface manufactured by Pepperl+Fuchs SE to be operated. Through the SmartBridge interface and the SmartBridge app, status and process data from IO-Link devices can be viewed and changed on your mobile device, regardless of their manufacturer.

Below, we would like to inform you, in accordance with Article 13 GDPR, what kind of personal data will be processed in connection with the use of the SmartBridge app, to what extent, and for what purposes.

2. Installation of the SmartBridge app

The SmartBridge app is available from sales platforms operated by third parties, known as app stores. Your download may require prior registration with the relevant app store and the installation of the app store software. Pepperl+Fuchs has no effect on the collection, processing, and use of personal data related to your registration and the provision of downloads in the relevant app store and app store software. In this respect, the sole responsible authority is the operator of the respective app stores. Pepperl+Fuchs only processes the data that is required for downloading the SmartBridge app onto your device. Please contact the relevant app store providers directly for more information if necessary. 

3. Access to functions/services

To guarantee correct and convenient operation of the SmartBridge system, the SmartBridge app must access various functions/services on your mobile device. Below, you will find information on which functions/services are accessed, what purpose this access serves, and what happens to any resulting data:

Camera access: This function is required in order to read a 2D code that is used to authenticate the connection between a SmartBridge interface and your mobile end device; no further data is collected by us.
Establishment of and access to a WiFi connection: This function is required in order to check whether a suitable WiFi connection is available for setting up an appropriate connection; no further data is collected by us.
Access to the Bluetooth interface: This function is required in order to enable data exchange between the SmartBridge interface and the SmartBridge app on your mobile end device; no further data is collected by us.

4. Collection and Processing of Personal Data, as well as the Type and Purpose

The SmartBridge app processes the following data, which in accordance with GDPR is classed as personal data:

IP Address: each device connected to the Internet requires a unique address for transmitting data, called an IP address. Storing the IP address for at least a short amount of time is technically unavoidable due to the way the Internet works. The IP addresses are neither stored nor processed further.

5. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your personal data for the purposes of our legitimate interests in accordance with point (f) of Article 6 (1) GDPR, to ensure the technical safety and availability of the SmartBridge app.

6. Recipients or Categories of Recipients

Your data will be used exclusively within the framework of the legal guidelines. In general, your data will be processed by Pepperl+Fuchs employees who require this information to fulfill legal obligations. The SmartBridge app uses the services of Amazon Web Services „S3“ und „API Gateway“ and the data needs to be made available to this external service providers; this is done solely for the purpose of using personal data on our behalf and on the basis of a corresponding contract ("Processor" as defined by Article 28 GDPR). 

7. Duration of Storage and Criteria for Defining this Duration

The IP Address will be deleted as soon as it is no longer required for the specified processing purposes. This applies after exciting the uses of the SmartBridge app.

8. Rights of the Data Subject

In accordance with the general provisions stipulated in Article 12 GDPR, you have right of access in accordance with Article 15 GDPR, the right to rectification in accordance with Article 16 GDPR, the right to erasure in accordance with Article 17 GDPR, the right to restriction of processing in accordance with Article 18 GDPR, as well as the right to data portability in accordance with Article 20 GDPR. You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority in accordance with Article 77 GDPR.

9. Right to Object

Providing that your personal data is processed on the basis of legitimate interests in accordance with point (f) of Article 6 (1) GDPR, you have the right to object to the processing of your personal data in accordance with Article 21 GDPR, providing that there are grounds to do so based on your particular situation.
