Functional Principles of Retro-Reflective Area Sensors

A very effective operating principle

Our retro-reflective area sensor operates with the same principle as the retro-reflective sensor, except it contains several transmitters and receivers in one enclosure, with a reflector positioned opposite, forming a detection area with a consistent width and height over the relevant sensing range.

When the light beams in the detection area are interrupted by an object, the switching function is triggered.

operates according to the reflection principle
RLG28 retro-reflective area sensor reliably detects objects of different shapes and sizes

Advantages:

  • Reliable, consistent object detection with no incorrect switching, regardless of the shape, surface, or position of the objects
  • The sensors do not need to be realigned if the object shape or position changes.
  • Replaces complicated, cost-intensive installations using several sensors in series

Apart from lower prices, the benefits compared to light grids include the reflection principle.

While the retro-reflective area sensor operates with a simple reflector, light grids consisting of a transmitter and receiver must always be wired at two ends. Retro-reflective area sensors are easier to install
